Practice Drills Between Tests

Between plan tests, students practise their weakest skills in question-type drills. Drills come from two places, and students see them all in one list.

Drills the plan sets

After each counted plan test, the plan looks at the student's latest two counted tests and picks their weakest skills:

  • SAT Reading & Writing — question types (e.g. Words in context, Rhetorical synthesis)
  • SAT Math — content areas (e.g. Advanced math)
  • IELTS Reading and Listening — question types

A skill qualifies when the student answered at least 3 of its questions and got fewer than 70% right. The plan sets up to two drills, of 15 questions each (fewer if fewer fresh questions exist), due by the next test. The student gets a notice: "Practice Advanced math (15 questions) by Fri 16 Oct — part of your test plan."

A skill that already has an open drill is not set twice — its due date moves to the next test instead. Writing and Speaking are covered by skills checks rather than drills.

To stop the plan setting drills for a student, untick Practice drills after each test under Change the plan.

Drills a teacher sets

Teachers can set a drill from a reviewed practice bank under Management → Practice Drill Assignments: choose the task family, the learners or a group, the number of questions, the practice mode and a due date. The learner gets a notice — "New practice drill from your teacher: …" — that opens the drill directly, and every answer they give counts toward it.

Where students see them

  • My Assignments → Practice drills — every open drill, marked Test plan or From your teacher, overdue first and then by due date, with questions done and a Start / Continue button. A drill with every question answered drops off the list.
  • Dashboard → Practice to do — how many drills are open, the next one and its due date.
  • Calendar — each drill on its due day. Teachers see the drills they set on their own calendar, one entry per class and day.
  • My test plan and the staff plan page — the plan's drills with progress.

Papers kept for tests

While a student is on a plan, their drills never use the papers the plan is keeping for its tests, so every mock stays unseen. On the SAT, Practice Tests 23–30 are kept for drills and are never used as plan tests, so plan students always have practice material.
