How It Works

3-Step Assessment Wizard

From assignment brief to graded results in three straightforward steps.

1. Upload or Paste the Brief

Upload your assignment brief (PDF/DOCX) or paste the text, and select the awarding body. Framework-aware AI extracts learning outcomes, assessment criteria, and scenarios in that framework's own tier vocabulary.

2. Review & Confirm Criteria

Review the extracted criteria hierarchy. Edit, add, or remove criteria as needed. The system auto-configures grading levels based on your framework.

3. Upload Submissions & Evaluate

Upload student files individually or in bulk. Run AI evaluation to get per-criterion Met/Not Met judgments with evidence, feedback, and overall grades.

Key Features

Built for Criteria-Based Qualifications

11 Global Frameworks

Pearson BTEC, SQA, ATHE, Qualifi, OTHM, NVQ, IB, Cambridge, AQA/OCR/Edexcel, NAAC/NBA, and Competency-Based Education. Grading levels auto-configure, and criteria are extracted and graded in each framework's own tier vocabulary (BTEC P/M/D, SQA A/B/C, IB Elementary–Advanced…).

Image-Aware Evaluation

AI extracts images from documents and analyzes diagrams, charts, and screenshots in context. Visual evidence is never missed during criterion matching.

Multi-Modal Submissions

Accept documents (PDF/DOCX), plain & formatted text (TXT/RTF), presentations (PPTX), audio & video (MP3/WAV/M4A/OGG/WEBM/MP4), code projects (ZIP), rich text, and portfolios. Files that can't be read are flagged with a clear message — never silently graded as blank.

Batch Processing

Evaluate entire cohorts at once with real-time progress tracking. Cross-tab analysis shows criteria-by-student overview with Met percentage per criterion.

Professional Reports

Generate individual or batch reports in PDF, DOCX, and CSV formats. Download ZIP bundles for entire cohorts. Reports include evidence, feedback, and grade breakdowns.

Email Integration

Send reports automatically or manually with customizable email templates. Configure header colors, greeting text, signatures, CC recipients, and attachment formats.

Threshold-Based Grading

Authentic criteria-based grading: the grade is the highest tier met in full — Pass / Merit / Distinction / High Distinction (4-tier frameworks), shown in each framework's own words. No percentage scores or point averaging.

Consistency Analysis

View per-criterion pass rates across your cohort. Identify criteria where students consistently struggle and adjust teaching or assessment accordingly.

Teacher QC & Custom Rubrics

Standardise human marking against the AI — comparative mode shows verdict agreement and strictness, advisory mode scores the quality of each teacher's written feedback. Define your own rubric (axes, scoring instructions, weights and named performance levels) and export a batch QC report to PDF/Word. The AI grade is never overridden.

Supported Frameworks

11 International Assessment Frameworks

Select your awarding body and grading levels configure automatically

Framework Grading Levels Typical Use
Pearson BTEC (HNC/HND) Pass / Merit / Distinction UK higher national qualifications
SQA (Higher National) Grade C / Grade B / Grade A Scottish HN graded units
ATHE Pass / Merit / Distinction Alternative higher education
Qualifi Pass / Merit / Distinction Professional qualifications
OTHM Pass / Merit / Distinction International higher education
NVQ / SVQ Competent National vocational qualifications
IB (International Baccalaureate) Elementary / Basic / Proficient / Advanced International schools worldwide
Cambridge-aligned Achievement Level 1 / 2 / 3 Internal achievement rubric*
AQA / OCR / Edexcel Level 1 / Level 2 / Level 3 / Level 4 UK levels-of-response marking
NAAC / NBA-aligned Below Average / Average / Good / Excellent Outcome-attainment rubric*
Competency-Based Education Mastery Outcome-based learning programs

Each framework extracts and grades in its own tier vocabulary, and 4-tier frameworks (IB, AQA/OCR, NAAC/NBA) add a top High Distinction band.
*Cambridge-aligned and NAAC/NBA-aligned provide an internal achievement-level / outcome-attainment rubric for grading coursework — they do not reproduce Cambridge's official A*–G grades or NAAC's institutional CGPA / NBA programme accreditation, which assess whole institutions or programmes rather than individual student work.

Assessor Feedback

What Assessors Are Saying

"We evaluate over 300 BTEC submissions per term. The batch processing and consistency analysis have transformed our IQA workflow. We can now identify weak criteria across the cohort in minutes instead of days."

JW
James Whitfield
IQA Lead, London College of Business

"The image-aware evaluation is a real differentiator. Our computing students include screenshots and diagrams in their reports, and the AI actually reads and evaluates them against the criteria. Nothing else we tried could do this."

AP
Dr. Ayesha Patel
Programme Leader, Birmingham City College

"Setting up a new unit used to take half a day of copying criteria into spreadsheets. The 3-step wizard extracts everything from the brief PDF in seconds. We just review and go. It has genuinely halved our assessment admin."

RK
Rachel Keane
HND Assessor, Manchester Metropolitan College

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The system supports 11 international frameworks: Pearson BTEC (HNC/HND), SQA, ATHE, Qualifi, OTHM, NVQ/SVQ, International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge-aligned, AQA/OCR/Edexcel, NAAC/NBA-aligned, and Competency-Based Education. The Cambridge-aligned and NAAC/NBA-aligned options use an internal achievement-level rubric for grading coursework rather than reproducing those bodies' official institutional/programme grade scales. You can also create custom frameworks with your own grading levels.

Students can submit documents (PDF, DOCX), plain & formatted text (TXT, RTF), presentations (PPTX), audio & video (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, WEBM, MP4), code projects (ZIP), rich text entries, and portfolios with multiple files. Each format has a specialized processing pipeline that extracts all content including embedded images, speaker notes, code files, and audio transcripts. If a file can't be read (e.g. a legacy binary .doc/.ppt or a scanned PDF), it's flagged with a clear message and never silently graded as blank.

Unlike percentage-based scoring, threshold grading evaluates each criterion as Met or Not Met. For Pass/Merit/Distinction frameworks, a student must meet ALL Pass criteria to achieve a Pass, ALL Pass and Merit criteria for Merit, and ALL criteria at every level for Distinction. Four-tier frameworks (IB, AQA/OCR, NAAC/NBA) add a top High Distinction band, and the overall grade is shown in each framework's own vocabulary (an SQA top grade reads “Grade A”; an NVQ pass reads “Competent”). This matches exactly how awarding bodies like Pearson BTEC require assessments to be graded. The system applies the correct logic automatically based on the framework you select.

Yes. When you upload an assignment brief, the AI extracts criteria, learning outcomes, and scenarios. You can then review, edit, add, or remove any criteria before running evaluations. You retain full control over the assessment framework and can adjust it at any time.

Billing uses the same tiered pricing as Evaluation Studio, charged per student submission evaluated. Batch evaluations are priced per student in the batch. This means you only pay for evaluations you actually run. Contact your account manager for volume pricing on large cohorts.

There is no hard limit on batch size. The system processes submissions in parallel with real-time progress tracking. Typical batches range from 10 to 200+ students. Larger batches automatically include consistency analysis showing per-criterion pass rates across the cohort and grade distribution breakdowns.

Individual student reports are available in PDF, DOCX, and CSV formats. Batch reports can be downloaded as ZIP bundles containing all student reports in your chosen format(s). Reports include per-criterion judgments with evidence, overall grade, strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations.

Yes. Assignment briefs can contain multiple parts (Part A, Part B, etc.), each with different submission types and criteria coverage. For example, Part A might require a written report covering Pass criteria, while Part B requires a presentation covering Merit and Distinction criteria. Each part is evaluated independently, and results are aggregated for the overall unit grade.

Teacher QC is a human-standardisation side-channel: teachers record their own per-criterion verdicts and written feedback, and the system compares and scores them against the AI — the AI grade always stays the official input and is never overridden. Comparative mode shows where teachers agree or differ with the AI (and whether they mark stricter or more lenient); advisory mode rates the quality of each teacher's written feedback (Specific / Generic / Weak) with pinpoint, evidence-grounded coaching. You can use the built-in rubric or define your own — custom axes with their own scoring instructions, weights, and named performance levels — set as an organization default or per batch, and export a batch QC report to PDF or Word.
